If you watched the Screen Actors Guild Awards (the SAGs), you probably saw Leo DiCaprio steal the show that night.
Not only did he take home the top prize for best actor for his role in The Revenant, he was also the talk of the internet with his vaping all night from the audience. He’s been known to be a vaper for years, as you’ll find blog posts from around 5 or so years ago on sites like TMZ with shots of him vaping before it was even really a thing in the mainstream.
It’s great that the e-cig industry is getting this kind of visibility, and with Leo up for Best Actor at the biggest show in the business, the Academy Awards (the “Oscars”), it would have been great to see him vaping from the crowd in Los Angeles.
However, that won’t be happening. As I read in an article today, apparently the powers that be at the Academy have vetoed the use of vaporizers at the event. It’s a little more of a smug, classy atmosphere there to say the least, and I guess they just didn’t want that kind of thing around. There will be a no smoking rule all throughout the building, which includes vaping. If Leo desires, there is a smoking section adjacent to the theater if he wants to take a few puffs.
I think this is a bunch of bull, but have to respect the rules of the theater and I’m sure he can go a few hours without, or step outside to the smoking section during commercial breaks or during some of the boring award presentations. Vaping has become quite visible in the celebrity scene these days, I have to imagine he’s not the only one who will be wanting to take a few drags that night.
